The Juice: Buster Posey injures leg on violent play at plate 26 May 2011, 1:17 pm
Nine innings, nine items to get you going. Ladies and gentleman of the Stew, take a sip of morning Juice. 1. Busting up Buster: If you're squeamish, don't watch the ugly replay of Buster Posey injuring his left ankle getting roll-blocked by Scott Cousins at home plate in the 12th inning. Cousins scored the go-ahead run in Florida's 7-6 victory, which might be much more costly to the San Francisco Giants if Posey is as seriously hurt as it appears. He had X-rays — the results of which the Giants did not release immediately — and is slated for an MRI. 2. Have a game, Young man: Chris Young hit a go-ahead RBI single, then preserved a 2-1 victory for the Arizona Diamondbacks with a leaping catch in center to rob Ty Wigginton of a tying homer in the ninth. What do you have to say for yourself? "You practice for it," Young said. "If it's gone anymore than that, you look like a fool jumping against the wall for no reason. You just take a gamble and hope you can get up high enough for it." 3. Zack's hitting attack: Ever since he was a kid, Zack Greinke wanted to be a major league hitter. Well, he hit a home run and it helped him and the Milwaukee Brewers to a 6-4 victory against the Nationals. 4. Dovetailing: It appears the Boston Red Sox and Cleveland Indians might be converging on the mean after Carl Crawford went 4-for-4 for his new team to lead a 14-2 romp at Progressive Field. 5. Pitch a fit: A terrific pitchers duel with Gavin Floyd went C.J. Wilson's way in a 2-1 victory for the Texas Rangers. The White Sox, for their part, blew about 45 prime scoring chances in the final three innings. 6. It never rains in Chicago: Mike Quade argued a rain delay like few managers ever have. But the umpires decided to tarp the field in the top of the seventh, and called the game 41 minutes later, with the Mets leading 7-4. So, they win. 7. Fantasy speculation: The Los Angeles Angels beat the Oakland Athletics 4-1, with Trevor Cahill putting 15 runners on base in six innings. I would sell Cahill, if I owned him in fantasy. 8. God love Brooks Conrad: He's the man when it comes to late-inning bat heroics, as he showed again in Atlanta's 4-2 victory in 11 innings, coming through with a pinch-hit two-run homer. Just keep him away from the glove and everything's cool. 9. Decisions, decisions: Thanks to a 3-1 victory for the San Diego Padres against the Cardinals, right-hander Chris Carpenter's individual to 1-5. That means he has as many victories as Wilson Valdez.
