The Juice: McCutchen wins it for McCutchen; Pirates at .500!

Nine innings, nine items to get you going. Ladies and gentleman of the Stew, take a sip of morning Juice.

1. "We're gonna be up 5-honey by midnight!" Andrew McCutchen acted super chill about his game-ending home run in the 12th against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday night. In light of the Pittsburgh Pirates reaching .500 this late in a season for the first time since 2005, he could have gone a little nuttier. But no. Act like you've been there before.

"It's different now since Kendry Morales got hurt last season," McCutchen said, referring to the Los Angeles Angels' first baseman who hasn't played since breaking his leg leaping to the plate celebrating last May.

"I don't think you'll ever see me go leaping into home plate anymore like I did that night. It's too dangerous. Plus, I was tired. It was a long, hot night and I was just glad it was over and we got the win."

There's no sense it getting too excited about being at .500 in June when your franchise hasn't had a winning record since 1992. Also neat: The dinger meant the winning pitcher was Daniel McCutchen, his brother in spirit.

2. Wednesday is Prince Spaghetti Fielder Day: Nyjer Morgan was so impressed by Prince Fielder's tying two-run home run in eighth inning, he thought it was the go-ahead home run in the seventh. Confused? So is Nyjer. Regardless, the Brewers beat the Mets 7-6.

3. Big Papi made a funny: Not only is David Ortiz hot at the plate, as evidenced by his home run in Boston's 11-6 whooping of the Yankees, but his wit also is on fire:

Hey David, what did you hit?

"A bomb," he said, drawing laughs.

4. "For your health!"

Matt Cain had a great day, pitching his first complete game of the season and hitting an RBI double in the Giants 3-1 victory against the Nationals. And, as usual, he looked like Dr. Steve Brule while doing so.

5. Hey, Bud, let's dominate: Bud Norris fact: He obviously has a thing for pitching his best against the St. Louis Cardinals. He had a no-no going until the seventh, when Lance Berkman besmirched it with a home run. Otherwise, Bud was a stud in Houston's 4-1 victory.

6. Still motorin': In a 7-2 victory, Alexi Ogando and the Rangers denied the Tigers their first three-game sweep at Texas in 10 years, but it was a sound road trip for Detroit, which finished with a 4-2 record.

7. Rays Shields' spirits: If I'm James Shields, I want my money back. He leaves in the eighth inning with a three-run lead, and it's wiped out on the first pitch a reliever throws thanks to a bases-clearing double by Bobby Abreu. However, thanks to the appearance of Angels reliever Fernando Rodney, the Tampa Bay Rays were able to squeeze across the go-ahead run in the ninth on Reid Brignac's bunt and won 4-3.

8. One-upsmanship: Cole Hamels is like, no, it's not just Cliff Lee — I'm a red ninja, too! Hamels lowered his ERA and Ryan Howard hit a homer in the Phillies 2-0 win against the Dodgers.

9. Warning to all of you major leaguers who read this blog: Pitch to Seattle's Miguel Olivo at your own risk: He's got four homers and 11 RBIs in his past six games after driving in three runs against the White Sox in a 7-4, 10-inning victory.
